About Us
Wicklow Choral Society is a mixed voice choir of between fifty and sixty singers. We are an amateur choir and our members come from all walks of life – what we have in common is our enjoyment of singing choral music.
The choir was founded as Wicklow Choral Group in 2002 by Marie Kavanagh. Frank Kelly became musical director in 2004 and the choir was renamed Wicklow Choral Society in honour of the legendary Mirette Dowling who for many years directed a choir of that name in the town. In September 2022 James Bingham took over the baton of Musical Director.
We sing a wide range of choral music and have performed works by composers such as Vivaldi, Mozart, Haydn and Schubert right up to mordern day composers Morten Lauridsen, Karl Jenkins, Howard Goodall and Ola Gjeilo. You can hear extracts from some of our previous concerts in Our Music section.
We perform at least two concerts a year – a Christmas Carol Concert in December and our main concert in May. Our May 2023 programme will be Dan Forrest’s ‘Requiem for the Living’ and Joseph Haydn’s ‘Missa Brevis’.
We are always delighted to welcome new members.
You can sing with us for the first month on a trial basis without paying a fee. Why not come along and give it a try? For more information go to Sing With Us.
